While Faith is our first name, Lutheran is our family name.
As Lutherans, we believe, teach and confess that the Bible is the very Word
of God. We believe that God gave the Bible to us, first to convict us of
our sins, second to convert us to Christ, and third to guide us to live
for him.
As
Lutherans, we also believe that it is the power of the Word of God that
makes the water of Holy Baptism, a washing of regeneration and renewal
in the Holy Spirit. (Titus 3:5,6)
That is why
we are willing to confess that there is one Baptism for or into the remission
of sin. Furthermore, we believe that it is the power of the Word of God
that makes the bread and wine in Holy Communion, Jesus' true body and
blood, given to us for the forgiveness of our sin. (Matthew
26:26-28)
We do not
believe that we are doing anything for God when we are baptized and when
we commune. In Baptism and in the Lord's Supper, it is God who is doing
something for us.
